Jan 03   In the Dreamtime....Aboriginal Art from the Booker-Lowe Gallery
Indigenous people inhabited Australia for at least 40,000 years prior to European exploration. They developed hundreds of languages, as well as complex Creation myths or ?Dreamings,? which defined the actions and relationships of ancestral beings ? both human and animal ? to the land and to one another, and dictated codes of conduct. It was not until the early 1970's that the Aboriginal people, the world's oldest living culture, were encouraged to share their pictorial traditions with the ?outside world? by painting them on canvas. Since the first paintings were created at the remote Papunya settlement deep in the Central Desert, Aboriginal artists have continued to paint their country and their ancestral stories in strikingly contemporary fashion.

Jan 19   Be Tomball Ready Monthly Lunch Presentation
BTR is a subcommittee of the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce and the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), and is dedicated to helping businesses and individuals prepare for, survive, and recover from all kinds of emergencies and disasters.  “Unfortunately, these events usually don’t give us much notice, so being prepared often means the difference between losing your personal property or business, and being able to survive such an event,” said Ott.

Previous BTR Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday monthly and are free and open to the public.  Mike Ott, Committee Chair, encourages interested citizens to “bring lunch or purchase a meal from the TRMC Cafeteria, and join us to learn about a variety of personal and public safety topics.”

programs include FBI presentations on cyber-crime, internet security, prevention of identity theft, personal safety, business crime, strategies for reducing online banking risk, Red Cross information, recovery case studies from a business disaster expert, a representative from the Virus Doctor, a panel of computer experts, presentations by the Harris County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and representatives from the Tomball Regional Medical Center, Tomball Fire and Police Departments, Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Constables Office.

Rosehill Christian School located at 19830 FM 2920 is having a ribbon cutting for their new multiplex facility on Monday, January 30th from 11:30 – 1:00 p.m.  The school is a member of three Chambers; The Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce, Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce, and the Waller Chamber of Commerce.  All three will take part in dedicating this new facility as each Chamber will participate.

This new 40,000 sq. ft. facility will add 13 spacious classrooms, a performing arts venue, a college-size basketball floor used for competition in basketball and volleyball.  The spacious auditorium will seat 1,000 fans.

Several of many outstanding features include a gathering area for students to socialize as well as for study.  60” flat screens will continue to be used by teachers in each classroom to make their curriculum come alive to a generation who are used to being visually stimulated.

In a day and age when security is foremost in our mind, cameras and controlled access has been a priority.
